Weighing 12.8 ounces, the Streamlight Stinger DS LED Flashlight is 8.85 inches long, 1.17 inches in diameter at the body, and 1.62 inches in diameter at the head. (More customer reviews)I come from a family of peace officers and firefighters and I've known the brand Streamlight as far back as I can remember.These lights are tough, durable and more importantly BRIGHT!My brother who is in police academy told me that his instructor requested the students to purchase this particular flashlight because of the strobe feature, which can be used for tactical entry as well as a temporary defense. (The experience of encountering a bright strobing light can cause dizziness and even nausea in some people.)At any rate, I purchased this light from Amazon.com and liked it so well that I decided to get one for myself.After some shopping around I did find this item at a local store (a plumbing supply company of all places) for $95 which only included one charger.Not a problem.

When the light is turned on it by default uses high intensity.If you keep the power button depressed, in about one second the intensity of the beam will start to decrease to "medium" and a "low" intensity.The strobe function is activated when the power button is rapidly pressed twice.Streamlight does offer a power button located on the "[...]" of the flashlight for power access for "over-handed" use, and is an optional feature.

The battery is considered fully charged after being charged for 12-14 hours...so it takes a while; however, the battery memory is not altered if the battery is not completely discharged regularly.This means that the life span of the battery charge is not diminished if the light sits in the charger for weeks at a time.I consider this a HUGE PLUS!

So, if you're on the fence about purchasing this flashlight, I can honestly say that you will not be disappointed in the performance of this Polystinger.I'm seriously considering getting another one for the car.

**And if you do decide to go with this unit, whatever you do, DO NOT LOOK INTO THE FLASHLIGHT while it is on!!! it is VERY bright!

(More customer reviews)The Stinger XT HP is rated at 40,000 peak candlepower and I must say that's pretty darn bright. In fact, it's brighter than a 6 D-cell Maglite that's almost the length of a walking stick...well maybe not that long, but you get the picture. The Stinger XT HP produces a strong focused beam (adjustable) that can be seen from far away, producing usable light to a distance of over 100m (~330ft). This allows the light to be used as a short-range spotlight for looking into a forest canopy, etc. The machined aluminum construction appears sturdy but the battery does rattle a little bit inside the casing. However, my major complaints with the light are its 1hr battery life and 30hr bulb life.

(More customer reviews)I bought my first Streamlight 23 years ago.I still have it and it works like a champ.I've replaced batteries, bulbs, even the lens.The body is silver from being handled on a daily basis for all that time. Everyone I know that uses this light has pretty much the same story - I have never had to buy a second light for myself, cuz the first one has never broken!!

I have bought a few for friends and recently one for my son (who is now a proud member of the Houston Police Department!).Never have heard a complaint.I have a few additional models for undercover and home use.I highly recommend all of their products! They are worth the money.

(More customer reviews)After years of dealing with inferior product I finally made a significant investment in a quality flashlight that I can depend on, and this one did not disappoint me. It came with both a 12V and 120V charger so you can go camping or whatever and charge it from your car. Both chargers are designed for the flashlight to be able to be in them continually, so you don't have to worry about overcharging. If I had one complaint it is that the beam doesn't focus from wide to spot very well, but it's so bright that you won't be needing a spot anyway.

Key points - flashlight battery life about one hour between charges. How do you get a beam so bright - by running the bulb hot so bulb life is quoted as 40 hour so I suggest getting a spare, they're reasonably priced. The beam is a clean white light!

Streamlight Strion Rechargeable Xenon Flashlight without Charger Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned all sorts of flashlights, from the most expensive Surefires, to Streamlights, to Mag and other products and I must say this is truly an outstanding light!The finish is not the same as a Surefire Hard Anodized finish, but it seems to put out the same intensity of light as my Surefire M3Turbo which sells for 2-3 times the cost.The Surefire M3T has seemingly the same intensity but about twice the illumination area as the Strion.I have been so impressed with Surefires that I have owned 10-15 and I still think light for light they're the absolute best.I don't think this Streamlight will compare with the construction standards of a Surefire, but if it comes down to shear light output and the integrity of illumination, this Strion is so good I'm starting to rethink getting another Surefire.(I have quite a few anyway).

Recharging seems to be done in just a few minutes...I can't imagine how much I can save over constantly replacing CR123 batteries at $1.75 each, not to mention how sparingly I've used such lights in the past without wishing to replace batteries.Having a light pattern similar to the Surefire is nice, and having a replacement bulb provided in the tail cap and a cost of about $5.00 to replace the bulb compared to the assembly sold by Surefire has turned my head.

I also have and have used Liteboxes and Vulcans both as a long time owner of these and while serving as a fireman.The Streamlight Survivor (earlier style) was my favorite light, but the Strion reminds me of the light pattern without the size of the Survivor. I recently purchased a Fire Vulcan and was very disappointed in the light pattern with a large area of darkness surrounded by a ring of light.I was searching for a person recently and was so disappointed by the light pattern of the Vulcan that I went back to my vehicle and retrieved my Surefire M3T.If I had the Strion I would have opted for that light instead as I wouldn't eat up the batteries.I also recently purchased as Streamlite Litebox, as I had one of the earlier models with the sealed beam.The newer model has a small replacable lamp and I'm afraid it will have the same light pattern as the Vulcan.Still for a good long-lasting light you can't beat either of these lanterns.All of the Liteboxes, Survivors and Vulcans will take the heat and abuse of being on a fire scene and I think my Survivor went into a training exercise with me where the temp was around 650 degrees.The construction standards are excellent, but the light pattern with these have as of late been disappointing.

The Stiron is everything you would want in a light.It's very very powerful, more so than the G2, 6P, and E2E Surefires, but it doesn't have the construction standards the Surefires have as they're truly the best in construction.The Strion doesn't seem to have the same construction standards, but I'm noticing I'm using the Strion more and more and the Surefires less and less.

Pros:

-This is a LED LIGHT so it uses less energy, generates less heat, and thus lasts a longer time than incandescent models.

-The LED module is a C4 LED, so it is much brighter than regular LEDs and it has a better "throw" than incandescent lights.

-It has two switches, one below the reflector head, and the other one on the tailcap.This allows you to use it in "patrol mode" or in "tactical mode."

-It is made to the same standards as the old Stingers, so you get that "solid" metal feel, except that this light comes with rubber in the middle for enhanced grip.

-Anti-roll ring included

-Has several output modes, thus allowing you to bargain between brightness and time the battery lasts.The flashlight also has a Strobe mode, which can be used to disorient a subject if the light is ever needed for self defense.

-**This light says it is rated at 80 lumens, but with the new C4 technology, the lumen rating has escalated to about 140.This makes it slightly brighter than the Pelican 7060, and both lights have a far-reaching throw.You'll be happy with either this light or the Pelican 7060, but I'd recommend this light to those who prefer a metallic body (since 7060 is made of hard polymer plastic), and the Stinger LED DS is a few bucks less expensive, and has more accessories available to you.Cons:

Not that many cons.The only bad thing is that they could have used a better reflector to get a "perfect" circle in the central beam. If you've ever had a Pelican 7060, you will know what I mean by "perfect circle."However, if you've never had a Pelican 7060, you will not even notice this tiny flaw.

Overall it's a great light to use on duty, or to carry in the car, or for personal use.It's a very good investment, because you will never need to buy batteries for it.

(More customer reviews)This little thing is thin, lightweight, solid construction, and cranks out more lux than I've ever seen from any other pen light.Incredibly handy and not heavy when you find it stuck in your mouth for 20 minutes looking for something that fell into one of those crevices under your car seat that is, for all intents and purposes, a black hole.You'll have a hard time finding AAAA batteries at most stores (not that you'll need them often as it runs A LONG TIME per set), but here's a trick.Peal open a good quality (copper top) 9 volt battery and inside you'll find 6 AAAA batteries that will fit!!!I will be getting one of these for each car since I've discovered this nifty trick!!For this price at amazon, it's a must have and great gift that anybody is likely to appreciate.

(More customer reviews)For the size, this thing is super bright, as good or better than a double D type light.I've had mine for over 2 years now, constant daily use, and haven't had to swap the bulb or battery.If you leave it on, it will get super hot.I've heard it will blow the bulb if you drop it hot.You can put it on the charger and leave it there, it won't overcharge.On a full charge, it will last all day, but starts to go dim towards the end.I wish it had something to keep it from rolling when you lay it on a flat surface.I noticed the newer led model is made with a deal to keep it from rolling.

UPDATE:I did finally have a couple problems with it.I dropped it and it stopped working.Opened it up, wonderful, it had a spare bulb in the tail cap.Simple swap, working again.Then the twist switch stopped working while the push was still working.Opened it up, slid the battery out, found the spring that pushes against the battery had caused a little dark dent on the battery contact area.Cleaned it up, reassembled, back in business.

Now, I believe from dropping it, the twist switch stopped working.The dents on the battery contacts are now deeper and no longer want to hit the contacts good.It looks like I'll have to replace the battery to get it to start working properly.

Then occasionally, it doesn't want to contact properly with the charger.Clean the contacts on the light and charger, snap in, and it works most of the time, but occasionally, I have to twist the switch to get it to start charging.Make sure it's turned off before you walk away.I also noticed it doesn't like being in direct sunlight on a hot day on the charger.

(More customer reviews)The Stinger is a great rechargeable light. It's small yet provides a bright amount of light for about an hour. With the adjustable lens, you can choose a floodlight or spotlight.
The Stinger comes with two charging cradles and an AC cord and DC cord so you can have one in your car and one at home. Therefore you can always have your Stinger charging to be used whenever you need it. The extra bulb in the tailcap is also nice.
+'s: small, bright, fits easy in your hands, adjustable beam, 1 hour run time, you can charge the battery without taking it out of the flashlight, charging cradles allow you to place the flashlight from the top or "snapped" in from the front.
-'s: long charge time unless you buy the "fast" charger.
If you need to constantly use a flashlight that is small but powerful (security guard, handyman, plumber), the Stinger will not disappoint you. The rechargeable battery will save you money in the long run.
Although expensive, it is good quality and I would buy this flashlight again. For a brighter light, check out the Stinger HP which is rated almost 3 times as bright.

(More customer reviews)Would have been nice if they had told me that it did not come with the power cord.Once I got the right power cord, works great!Easily mounts to just about anything and long lasting.Sometimes it is a little finicky getting the light into the charger, but be smarter than equipment and slide it in end first.Makes it easier.:-)
