Product Description:
Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology is an advanced battery design used in Yuasa's Maintenance Free Batteries that eliminates water loss. Once it's filled with acid the battery is permanently sealed - so you'll never need to fill it with water or check the acid level. Battery comes with acid packs.Longer Life Because of its lead calcium design, the AGM battery will hold its specific gravity more than three times longer than conventional lead antimony types. This means much longer periods between charges when the battery is used in a standby mode, like winter storage. And to remain factory-fresh the AGM battery is shipped dry along with its own pack of high-gravity acid that's added at the time of installation. Sealed, Non-spillable: Once filled with acid from its special packs, the AGM battery is virtually maintenance free. It's totally sealed and all of the acid is absorbed in the special plates and separators, so there is no need to worry about acid leaks on valuable vehicle parts and accessories.

Pulse Tech 100X020 XTREME CHARGE 12V Motorcycle ATV UTV Powersports Charger Tester Maintainer
Average Reviews:

I got the charger and was surprised how light it is first of all, like 1/2 the weight of a battery tender. Of course "Made in China" on the box, so I was not real hopeful. Remove it from the box and it looks like a well made unit. First hook it to the battery, then plug it in and it has the LEDs that indicate hookup is correct ect, then the bottom charge light lights, the next 3 light above it flash to indicate charging, then the lights to the right of there indicate the approx percent of charge the battery is at. I volt tested the battery before hooking it up and it was sitting at 11.4 so definately in need of charge. The 25% charge light was lit, then quickly moved up to 75%. Hooked a logging multimeter up for an amp test the entire time. Initial hookup showed 2.5A, tapering down gradually to 0.7A. Entire charge took 6 1/2 hours, then the charge light goes off, the 100% light is lit and the charger goes into storage mode. In this mode the charger sits at 0A and pulses a quick burst of 1.5A at intervals of about 5 seconds apart. It equates to an average of only about 0.10A. So the charger does truly shut down and go into storage mode as advertised and can be left on indefinately and not cook the battery. Two more things I like about it are it's silent, where the battery tender can be buzzy and runs barely warm to the touch where the battery tender gets dang hot. I'm impressed.

ACCUMATE BATTERY CHARGER - NO HAZARD BATTERIES - Review

ACCUMATE BATTERY CHARGER - NO HAZARD BATTERIES -
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I acquired this along with a Westco Battery after my trusty Sears charger bit the dust.In general, I'm neutral on it after owning it for about a month now.

I think this is designed for motorcycle owners who keep their bikes in an enclosed garage with a 115VAC outlet close at hand.In that scenario, used for overnight charging, this is probably a useful charger.

In my case, the bike is at the end of a carport, definitely not nearby my condominium, and I can't string electrical power to the bike.My normal operating procedure when faced with a low battery was to roll the bike to a spot near my unit, run a heavy extension cord, and charge for a couple of hours. So, to be fair, my situation is not ideal for any charger.

However, using the Accumate is suboptimal for me.First, it's designed to provide a slow charge, tapering off as the battery approaches a full charge.Once that's achieved, the green LED comes on, and you are good to go.However, that process takes a while. With my older charger, I had a gauge, which gave me some idea how close I was to completion, and allowed the option of stopping charging and going for a ride to complete the process.(Some will object that the slow charging process will provide the best battery life, and they are right. But that's not feasible in my situation, and my battery life is not optimal anyway due to the bike being in freezing temperatures occasionally.)

So, with the Accumate, I have to remove the battery and charge it overnight on the patio.(I do not charge batteries within enclosed spaces to avoid the possibility of a hydrogen explosion. So it's always done outside.)

This brings up a second issue - the unit is not ideal for outside use.The cooling vents on the top of the charger allow rainfall to enter the unit.Fortunately, the Accumate was not plugged in during the rain.

Additionally, the AC power cord seems problematic - it only makes connection at specific angles. The unit has not been dropped or dangled bu the cord, so I have to question the assembly quality.(This was before the rain -- no connection.)

So...Plusses are a charge designed to support battery life, compact size, and design specific to motorcycles.Negatives are simplistic indicators and longish charging time.

If your garage is a shrine to your motorcycle(s), then the Accumate may be a good choice for you.If you don't have a garage, then you may want to save the money and apply it to a regular automotive battery charger with a slow (1-2 amp) cycle instead.I'm not sure that I would buy this again.

VDC Electronics BatteryMINDer Charger, Maintainer, Desulphator - 1.3 Amp, 12 Volt, Model# 12117 Review

VDC Electronics BatteryMINDer Charger, Maintainer, Desulphator - 1.3 Amp, 12 Volt, Model# 12117
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
...if you own deep cycle batteries.I bought one of these in 2001 as an experiment to desulphate eight 6 volt 225 amp hour deep cycle batteries. The RV park where we were staying used them in their golf carts. They were going to throw 6 Trojan 225 ah batteries in the dumpster. These batteries were in bad shape as evidenced by the constant 6 amps being drawn after being hooked up to their "super" charger for many hours.Essentially, these batteries were so sulphated that they would not accept any more charge. With many chargers the charge current will drop to "0" as battery resistance increases when fully charged.

I mentioned tossing the batteries in the dumpster might be illegal. If they let me have them to do some tests and possibly recover them, I would dispose of them properly if I had no luck.I had just installed a solar panel system with a 2500 watt inverter on my 5th wheel and had only 1 pair of golf cart batteries that was already at least 2 years old.I needed more reserve battery power and calculated that I would need at least 6 of these batteries for the inverter to be of any real use to me.When using batteries in this manner, it is best to use batteries that are in similar condition and ideally from the same lot.Six new batteries were going to cost about $520 with tax.

I got them back to my rig and baselined the charge they would accept on my 10 amp charger.Indeed, they were not accepting any more charge. I paired these old batteries in series to get four 12 volt configurations and spent the next 4 weeks (1 week per pair) on this desulphator.I continued this process until my charger's ammeter would go to zero when the batteries were full, an indication that they were now in good shape.Ultimately, 2 of the batteries would prove to be unrecoverable, but the other 4 plus the 2 I already owned eventually recovered about 90% of their original amp hour capacity based on some standard tests I ran.

My inverter, combined with these recovered batteries, would run my 15,000 BTU air conditioner for nearly an hour, more than enough time to cool our 5th wheel while preparing and consuming lunch in 106 temps in Ca. deserts. The batteries would be nearly fully recharged by the solar panels and charge line from the tow vehicle by the time we reached our destination for the evening. With loving maintenance and care, they had lasted another 5 years providing countless hours of dry camping service! Finally, in 2006, I replaced them with new ones before an extended camping trip.

This charger/desulphator requires 115 vac and a minimum of 11 volts in the battery before you connect to it.So, if your battery is dead, be sure to bring it up the 11 volt minimum before hooking the unit up or it could overheat and be ruined. Also, most of the cheaper old style battery chargers don't have any voltage regulation. Consequently, the voltage these chargers supply to a fully charged battery can exceed well over 14 volts and will eventually "cook" the electrolyte out if you leave them hooked up.They can also overheat the battery, permanently damaging the thinner plate structure of automotive (starting batteries). The VDC model I bought in 2001 can be left on to maintain the charge in lead acid batteries.Check your operator instructions to be sure.

Shortly after recovering these batteries, I bought another desulphator from an Arizona solar supplier capable of desulphating a 1600 a/h battery bank that operates only off of the battery bank. This constant desulphating process along with proper battery maintenance is probably what helped sustain these batteries for an additonal 5 years. In the absence of a desulphator, deep cycle batteries should be "equalized".The interval depends on usage.I was doing it monthly. The equalization process requires a special charger and can be hard on batteries.Desulphation performs a similar function without the harshness of equalization.Desulphation plus judicial use of equalization can extract maximum life out of your deep cycle batteries.I wouldn't be without either one of these desulphators or a 3 or 4 stage battery charger.

A final note:Never let your batteries sit in a discharged condition. As a battery discharges, the sulphate that forms will be easier to return to solution whn prmptly recharged. If you let it sit, the sulphate can harden and be nearly impossible to return to solution.

Schumacher SC-300A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer Review

Schumacher SC-300A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for the same reason anyone would want a charger/maintainer... and that is to charge a battery and keep it there. I have a classic British sports car that I rarely drive, and until I started using this charger I would return to my car to a dead battery. This charger/maintainer comes with everything you need to quickly connect and disconnect this item, in 3 different ways: eye hole connectors to permanently attach the quick connector to your battery for very easy use, large alligator type clips for temporary use on a car that you want to just charge the battery on, and for super easy use there is a plug for use in the 12volt power outlet or cigar lighter. It has power sensing, so you cant over charge, and it will maintain the proper voltage for as long as it is connected. The wires are long enough from the charger itself to stretch across any car, and the power cable is about 8 feet long. Great little charger/maintainer. I would recommend this to anyone.

Schumacher SSC-1500A Ship 'N' Shore Speed Charge Charger Review

Schumacher SSC-1500A Ship 'N' Shore Speed Charge Charger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As my title states, this charger handles all four main types of large batteries: Lead Acid Auto Starter batteries, Deep Cycle Marine, AGM and Gel Cell. You select battery type and size and it takes care of the rest. When you first hook up the clips to the battery and plug in the charger, selecting battery type, it tests the battery and gives you the volts available as well as the percentage that battery is currently charged! Many times I've wanted to know that. You then select battery size and it starts charging. If you select 15 or 10 amps, when the battery is fully charged it goes into a maintenance mode automatically! You can leave the charger running forever - and it won't over charge the battery. Also - if your battery is damaged by sulfide build up, it detects that and runs a cycle to clean the battery and give it life again if it can.Wow.I wonder how many batteries I've replaced that could have been revived or kept alive by this charger?!This is going to save me a lot of money.

I purchased a new 850 cc amp deep cycle battery to use as an emergency power source for my amateur radio equipment (I'm a net control storm spotter for the National Weather Service Skywarn network). This brand new battery tested at 95% charged - so I fully charged it (while using the radio) and it worked fine.Charged up to 100% and went into maintenance mode automatically.Took the charger to the farm and connected it to a dead tractor battery.Showed 11% charged and began building the charge immediately. Was up to 15% in about 7 minutes when I had to leave.I'll have to update this review later to let you know if it was able to salvage that poor battery.

I know of no other chargers that test the battery, charge all types of batteries and can safely be left on to maintain them as well.Go check out the cost of Gel Cell battery chargers - and you'll find this is a deal.

BTW, if you forget to turn it from 'test' to 'charge', after 10 minutes or so this charger will automatically charge up the battery and keep it maintained for you!How easy is that?

Schumacher SE-1-12S Fully Automatic Onboard Battery Charger - 1.5 Amps Review

Schumacher SE-1-12S Fully Automatic Onboard Battery Charger - 1.5 Amps
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am fortunate enough to maintain two houses - one in the mid-West for the summer and a second one in the Palm Springs area for the winter. Rather than drive 1500 miles each way I have a couple of cars in each location so each set will sit idle for six months of the year which means I usually have two dead batteries when I arrive for the season. I tried a cheaper brand of trickle charger in the desert last year and it worked but I was afraid that if it burned out I would still return to dead batteries. I really like the quality of the Schumacher products having two of their multifunction battery chargers that have worked well for over 10 years. When I saw that they offered high quality trickle chargers I bought two of them to make the switch to worry free charging. The chargers are well built and heavy for their size and the build quality is typical Schumacher. The chargers are intended to be installed in the engine compartment with battery connections that are permanently connected to the charger and for power a short plug comes out of the side of the unit and is easily connected to a grounded extension cord. I really didn't want to install these under the hood even though they supply the mounting brackets and screws required but I did like the idea of the permanent connection to the battery as opposed to a clamp which could fall off in the middle of the season and leave me with a dead battery. Remembering how the chargers connected in the Power Wheels toys my sons had several years ago, I was able to find polarity keyed plug connectors in the trailer wiring section of the local auto parts store and now have a shortpigtail permanently connected to the battery and the ability to plug and unplug it into the charger when I want. Now I have the best of all worlds, the security of a solid connection to the battery and the flexibility of being able to plug and unplug the charger with ease. I like this a lot.
